Comprehensive Data Migration services include: Data Migration Strategy Planning—identifying which data will be migrated, to where and when. Appropriate sequencing is often required. Data Analysis—profiling the data to find range of values, identify outliers and propose cleanup. Data Mapping—determine how data elements from source system align to target system structures. Extraction— getting the required data out of the source system, often into a staging area where cleansing and transformation can occur without impact to production systems. Archiving—moving selected historical records that are rarely accessed to a data archive for the purposes of reducing data volumes and overhead in the target system. Data Cleansing— repairing corrupt data, removing invalid records or invalid characters that do not conform to the specifications of the target system. Removing Duplicates - removing duplicate records and any associated child records while maintaining the referential integrity of the remaining data. Data Transformation—the transformation of source system data values to fit target system values. Data Loading & Verification— testing the conversion programs and the accuracy of the data after it is loaded. This is often done in multiple cycles of mock-cutovers. Validation—testing the validity of the data against the business rules of the target application. Verify that a given record can be updated and saved, passing all of the system edits.

Data Migration |
Data migration is the set of activities with the purpose of moving data from the source system, such as a legacy application, to a new application in order to preserve core business knowledge. |
Migrating data requires a thorough understanding of the business data requirements and an assessment of which data makes business sense to migrate. When moving like to like data elements there is not always a one-to-one correlation between an object in the source system and the object in the target system. Part of the migration process is making adjustments or transformations to data to account for these differences while keeping the integrity of the data involved. |
